I actually think that the mo dern Dodge Challenger looks quite good with the vinyl top. I doubt a modern Camaro would look so good though.

Agree. That body style looks good in two tone, vinyl or not.

Make it a convertible instead

A few years ago there were convertible prototype sightings. Its a shame they never put them into production- a purple stick-shift Hellcat with a white soft top would be awesome.

Yes to color, no to vinyl

Amazingly, it doesn't look horrible. Black paint would be the way to go, though.

Burn them all

I don’t care for them on older cars either. Nothing says “this was grandma’s car” more than this:
plus, vinyl isn’t very UV tolerant so they inevitably look like ass after a few years.

Owners would need to apply for a CDL

I hated the vinyl top on my first car, a Gran Torino, and I’ve hated them since. If a sticker adds 5 horsepower a vinyl top subtracts 20.

It would be heavy, but its nobody takes a stock convertible to the track. Some tracks don't even allow convertibles without a roll bar

That one looks better than I would’ve expected. Generally I don’t care for vinyl tops on modern cars, but that looks good.
Mod top would be better though.

Normally I hate them but the challenger in the pic looks alright to me

One word: no

On certain vintage cars, a vinyl top can look decent - a vinyl top, with no to minimal padding. The fake carriage roofs made out of canvas or sail cloth with the convertible bows always look terrible though.
The Challenger does pull it off better than most current cars, mainly because its just a scaled up copy of a 1970s design.

Challenger: yeah, sure
Corolla: nope

They are dumb but for some reason people still buy them.

They don’t work because modern cars don’t have a sharp delineation between greenhouse and body anymore. The vinyl looks like it's just pasted on (which it is).

I can’t think of something that say’s out of touch grandpa’s car more than a vinyl top, even on an old car.

no way known, that crap needs to stay in the past!

Silly, pointless, dumb.

The only people doing this are old, and chances are they are all buying their last car right about now.
Once they do, it will be the end of the vinyl top.
I will be watching in ten years
for the latest model vehicle to have one of these.

You’re probably right, but I think there may still be some demand for v inyl tops on challengers, or maybe Chrysler 300's.
